IELTS

What is it:
The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an exam which is given by 2 kinds of people. The first kind comprises of students wishing to seek admission in some university or by professionals like doctors wishing to practice or study in an English speaking country whereas the second kind include people planning to do non academic training or for immigration purpose in an English speaking country.
The first kind of people give the Academic Version of IELTS whereas the second kind give the General Training Version of IELTS.


Syllabus:
There are four sections in each version namely the Listening Section, the Reading Section, the Writing Section and the Speaking Section. The Listening and Speaking section is the same for both the kinds of people whereas the other two section varies depending upon which version has the applicant opted for.


Listening Section - It consists of 4 sub sections and the total time alloted is 40 minutes.

Reading Section(for the applicants who give the Academic Version) - It consists of 3 sub sections and in total, 60 minutes are alloted.

Reading Section(for the applicants who give the General Training Version) - It also consists of 3 sub sections and again a total of 60 minutes is given to complete this section.

Speaking Section - There is no exact time limit for this section, however in around 15 minutes this section gets completed.

How much does it costs:
The registration fees varies from country to country. Fees in some of the countries is listed below however you can go here to find out the registration fees in your country.

Singapore:IELTS Test Fee: S$280

  1. i have passed my graduation frm university of manchester....now i plan 2 pursue my pg frm u.s..do i also need to give ielts or toefl??though i had given toefl b4 coming to uk..
